Hating Pink.
“I hate feminine things” Screamed the teen girl. “Well… you are a woman” Said the older version of her...
Whenever I read a post about hating being a girl I feel a deep sense of grief. I see myself in my teen years in my purple room telling everyone who would dare to listen that I hated the colour pink and everything it represents. I dreaded being a woman, instead of blooming into my femininity I smashed the bud onto the ground with my converse.
Some of you need a reality check, there is not escaping being a woman — you will always be perceived as one. Yet there is still hope, and I’m not talking a knight in shining armour coming to save you. Trust me on this one.
The hope are your sisters, your female friends… your mom — even your grandma. The other women who have been there before you, who know the ins and outs of the patriarchy like the back of their hand. Listen to them, enjoy their company, laugh — I promise you being a woman is not that hard if you have a pair (of ovaries).
I know that you are scared you will get hurt, broken, used… FIGHT BACK! Be Karma personified. Laugh hysterically when someone makes a misogynist joke and ask “What’s so funny please explain?” All of this with a poker face. The rabbit is in the trap, now pull the string.
Someone sexually assaults you? Report them, be the new face on a case — let the judge ask you difficult questions. The truth always comes out in the end, trust me more often than not justice is served — one way or the other.
Do not be a fawn in a hunting ground, be the bear they are scared to face.
YOU have more power than you can imagine, yes YOU. Do not make up excuses of why you are not equal to a man. Show up and be better than them, in every area imaginable.
Choose your niche and prove them wrong, stomp your feet on the ground when you are mad — point them with your finger when you are reprimanding them. Be the girl boss you always dreamed to be.
I don’t care if you are lesbian, bi, hetero, brown, black, white, Asian, fat, skinny, a whore, a mom… you are still a woman by birth right. Impress them with your brilliance, your talent — your attitude towards life. Be yourself!
Self-improvement is a great way to start. Be the beast that devours books, the dancing machine, the soft hand on a person’s worst day… the world is yours. ENJOY IT!

I hated pink for decades. I erased myself so I'd be safe. I'm not safe and I've had enough of hiding. I began dancing ballet. I bought the pink headset. Today I'm wearing a pink top, ballet themed earrings and a messy bun to work where I'm surrounded by men. It's a slow process but I want to step on the patriarchy from now on, not myself.
